Dual screen mode causes left monitor to flicker sporadically with dbus

When working in dual monitor mode in X, my left hand monitor will turn off for around a second every 30 seconds or so. It does this only in X (not in textmode), and stops as soon as I stop the dbus daemon (but this, of course, breaks various other things). I'm using the xf86-video-ati video drivers, using XRandR for dual monitor mode, and have experienced this problem on two seperate systems using similar hardware. I'm unsure who to ask about this (Is it a bug?)
I read somewhere that a workaround is to boot with the nomodeset kernel option, however, this appears to cause Xorg to segfault on start, so I can't test how much this helps.

Any ideas? I can't be the only person with this problem, but googling has been rather unhelpful.

I have the same problem, never had it before.
I have had Gnome running in the past with no problems, recently installed it again and i have the flashing monitor on the left, just like OP. If i stop dbus it goes away and both monitors are fine.

I had the same problem.  Fixed it by downgrading upower to version 0.9.7

Thanks a ton, I was trying to figure this out now and then and was getting frustrated.
