upowerd result in black screen about every half minute

after update today, my gnome will go to black screen every half minute (indeed, 20~30seconds), the black screen will last 2seconds.

after killed the /usr/lib/UPower/UPowerd, all are OK again.

anyone know the reason???

I'm using a DELL desktop computer.

if kill the powerd, and manual run it:

after every black screen, I can see follow string on terminal:

"doing the dock refresh ........"

Same problem here. Removing upower and replacing gdm with slim fixed it.

You can also replace your vga-cable and use DVI or Hdmi to fix it. Described in this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=881605

Ok  but when I try to remove upower tells me that gnome-session depends on it ... what to do?

I have to remove upower because it gives me problems, but gnome-session depends on it. How do I remove it? Can I remove gnome-session? (I think not!)

define problems. is an important piece of software and if you force removing that might cause even more problems.

i suggest to start explaining your problem and we could advice, in the right way, what to do.

I did not understand what you mean. In small part I know how to use pacman is not this the problem.
The problem is: can I remove the gnome-session or is critical to the system?

if you have gnome, yes. you won't be able to use it

Two users resolved removing upower. I don't understand why there is this dependence.

OMFG. i cannot believe my eyes.

do not remove it. first debug the problem, then report it to upstream bugtracker  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug. … uct=upower and then downgrade the upower package.

heck you can even ask upstream on the ml. http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/li … vkit-devel

please guys, report it so we can tackle this in the right way.

between 0.9.7 and 0.9.8 there are 13 commits in which at least 11 counts. Is simple to disect the problem and report it upstream.

When I suggest you read the pacman manual, that's because it can tell you how to remove packages that are dependencies to another package.

Not saying that's the best solution around, but it's a possible one.
