Linux and spanned volumes

I've got a question, im running a linux server with two harddisks:

hd0:
    part1: arch linux [5 gig]
    part2: swap [1 gig]
    part3: ftp [115 gig]

hd1:
    part1: ftp [160 gig]

But id like to have one 'spanned' volume for the two ftp partitions, 1 partition (275 gig). I this possible in (arch) linux, and how save is it...
