Grub without menu

Hi everyone,

I want to install Arch Linux instead of Ubuntu netbook Remix on my netbook, but I still got one simple question.

I've installed Arch on my desktop computer successfully, but my netbook still uses Ubuntu. The Ubuntu boot process is very very fast, there isn't even a grub boot menu. But as far as I can tell, grub is installed (/boot/grub/ exists). How can I achieve the same behaviour on Arch, so that there is no grub menu displayed and the netbook is loading the OS immediately?
I don't have any other OS installed on the netbook anyway, so I don't need this menu at all.
Can anyone help me out?

best regards

Re: Grub without menu

I think Ubuntu has moved to grub2 already, whereas Arch ships with grub.

You can set the timeout to 0 and it should be quick enough even though it will display the menu for a split second. Other ways to speed up your boot is to background the DAEMONS in your array in rc.conf.

Re: Grub without menu

Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and set timeout to 0

Re: Grub without menu

You could also add the option hiddenmenu which will require you to hit esc while booting to see the menu
