Problem with wifi - no Internet connection [SOLVED]

Hello.

I've installed Arch Linux today, some hours ago. I've also installed Ndiswrapper, Ndiswrapper-utils and Wireless-tools from the CD, during the installation of Arch.

I've blacklisted the driver rt2870sta, and configured the /etc/rc.conf file in this way:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … atic_setup

Well, I did this in Linux Mint 10 (by a GUI), and it worked (blacklisting rt2870sta first). But not in Arch Linux. I've tried a lot of things: blacklist rt2800usb, rt2800lib, rt2x00usb & rt2x00lib too, unblacklist rt2870sta, and no blacklisted modules, and nothing works.

What can I do? I only can connect to Internet by an USB, and I can't install anything.

Re: Problem with wifi - no Internet connection [SOLVED]

You might want to post some more details about your setup, like your wireless card, what errors you get (if any), output of ifconfig -a etc...

Re: Problem with wifi - no Internet connection [SOLVED]

Yes. My USB is a Conceptronic c150ru. When I write lsusb, this appears:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2870 Wireless Adapter

There are no errors that appear, only the absence of connection. When I write ifconfig, wlan0 is... well, it shows this:

wlan0  IEEE 802.11bgn Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated
          TX-Power=0 dBm
          Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:on

Re: Problem with wifi - no Internet connection [SOLVED]

Thanks so much. I've blacklisted only rt2800usb, rt2x00usb & rt2x00lib. And when I write iwconfig, appears this, more or less:

wlan0 Ralink STA ESSID:"WLAN_92" Nickname:"RT2870STA"
          Mode:Managed Frequency=2.422 GHz Access Point: 00:1A:2B:05:69:89
          Bit Rate=54 Mb/s
          RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Link Quality=100/100 Signal level:-61 dBm Noise level:-83 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Almost the same thing which appears in Linux Mint, where I've Internet big_smile

But Internet doesn't work yet. And at the start, when it says "Network connection [BUSY]", an error message appears about WEP key. I can't read it because it disappears very quickly.

Re: Problem with wifi - no Internet connection [SOLVED]

OK, I've found the differences.

Linux Mint (where I have Internet):

wlan0 Ralink STA ESSID:"WLAN_92" Nickname:"RT2870STA"
          Mode:Managed Frequency=2.422 GHz Access Point: 00:1A:2B:05:69:89
          Bit Rate=54 Mb/s
          RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Link Quality=100/100 Signal level:-61 dBm Noise level:-83 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0]

Arch Linux:

wlan0 Ralink STA ESSID:"WLAN_92" Nickname:"RT2870STA"
          Mode:Managed Frequency=2.422 GHz Access Point: 00:1A:2B:05:69:89
          Bit Rate=54 Mb/s
          RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
Link Quality=100/100 Signal level:-61 dBm Noise level:-83 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0]

And at start, where it says Configuring network [BUSY], the error says that WEP key has no security, and [BUSY] changes to [FAIL].

EDIT: The complete message says:

Starting network [BUSY]
...IFFLAGS: No such file or directory
...for wireless request "Set Encode" (0B2A) :
Set failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
Could not associate wlan0 - try increasing WIRELESS_TIMEOUT and check is WEP or has no security
                    [FAIL]

The dots are because I don't know what there was.

Re: Problem with wifi - no Internet connection [SOLVED]

OK, I've reinstalled Arch Linux with ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper-utils, netcfg, sudo, wireless-tools & wireless-netdb packages. I've blacklisted rt2800usb, rt2x00usb & rt2x00lib modules.

So, I've followed this tutorial: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … figuration

I've written INTERFACE=wlan0, ESSID=WLAN_92, KEY=************* in the directory /etc/network.d/wlan92/wireless-wep

But when I write

# netcfg wlan92

it says that the profile "wlan92" does not exist.

What is wrong?

EDIT: I was wrong :S

Well, I've done everything OK, I've written netcfg mynetwork, and it answers to me:

:: wlan up         [BUSY]
Line 6: Invalid WEP key 0 '*************'.
Line 6: failed to parse wep_key0 '*************'.
Line 8: failed to parse network block.
Failed to read or parse configuration '/tmp/wpa.wlan0/wpa.conf'.
> wpa_supplicant did not start, possible configuration error
                   [FAIL]

But WEP key is correct, I don't know why the error.

Re: Problem with wifi - no Internet connection [SOLVED]

Ok, the WEP key must be in ascii, not in hex. So, KEY='s:*************'.

Solved.
