Module r8169 (Netgear GA511)

I've spent some time searching for information. It seems like r8169 for some NICs gets broken once in a while. Booting some live CDs brings the adapter to life, but I've not been successful getting it to work in Arch, neither from the current install image or latest kernel.

Before I continue, or even simply sell this adapter and keeps an older working adapter (it's anyway for a slow old IBM thinkpad I'm using without X), I would like to ask if anyone has some input of the current state of r8169 and/or about workarounds.
