Unable to get wireless up ~~ no interfaces have a carrier

Hey. It's like 2AM so I'm probably going to make this short and sweet.

I've had wireless up on my laptop, it has been working fine, but I'm running into a problem now, I'm not picking up a carrier. I have even tried changing the network name to something extremely simple--ruff.
No password on the network. Here is what I usually do to bring up wireless manually..

ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 essid "ruff"
dhcpcd

done! on any other regular day, wireless would be up for now, but when I run dhcpcd today.. I get..

dhcpcd[1599]: version 5.2.11 starting
dhcpcd[1599]: no interfaces have a carrier
dhcpcd[1599]: forked to background, child pid 1620

My router is fine, I have everything plugged in, and my desktop is getting a signal fine.

Clearly, your wireless network card isn't associated with your AP, i.e. if you type iwconfig at this point, you should see something like 'Not-associated', and if you type 'ip link' show wlan0', you should see something like 'NO-CARRIER'.

Now, why is your wireless netcard card not associating with your AP, that's another story, and I couldn't tell.

take a look at the output of :

rfkill list
ifconfig -a
iwconfig
iwlist scan

And see if there are clues.  Can you see the IF, is the transmitter disabled, what is the output power, does it see the access point, does it associate with it ?
