Re: smartctl

well... see #1. It completed without error. So your hdd is good.

Also #2 got aborted because u started another test before completion of last one.

Re: smartctl

All i did was to press enter after entering the command, never interrupted it in any way..

I tried the same thing on another drive:

[root@venus]# smartctl -l selftest /dev/sdb
smartctl 5.39.1 2010-01-28 r3054 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] (local build)

# 1  Short offline       Self-test routine in progress 90%     16517         -

[root@venus]#

Same thing, but stops at 90%?

checkout the log after sometime & the Remaining would have decreased.

Hm I get "Completed: unknown failure    90%" on one hdd
Should I be worried, and how do I make the test continue?

Re: smartctl

check the errorlog first. smartctl -l error /dev/<drive>
also check smart data of the drive. smartctl -A ...

watch for raw value in Current_Pending_Sector, Offline_Uncorrectable, Reallocated_Sector_Ct lines.

if everything is 0, then i dont think there is anything to worry. smile

nd no prob.. always happy to help smile

Re: smartctl

smartctl -l error
last input: Error 2019 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 10779 hours (449 days + 3 hours)
And the hd has been running for 688 days now.. guess thats ok if it hasnt complained since then.

smartctl -A on the other hand:
  5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct   0x0033   007   007   036    Pre-fail  Always   FAILING_NOW 1922
197 Current_Pending_Sector  0x0012   100   100   000    Old_age   Always       -       125
198 Offline_Uncorrectable   0x0010   100   100   000    Old_age   Offline      -       162

Are those values to high?

Re: smartctl

which hdd model is that? & imo these values are way too high.

I replaced my previous hdd when it started giving errors and the Reallocated_Sector_Ct  reached 80. also the FAILING_NOW is of concern.

check what  smartctl -H <drive> has to say. and maybe u need to replace the drive.

Re: smartctl

Oh noo.. hmm, i cant remember where i bought my server, or my hdds.. its been a while.. is there any way to check with software what kind of hd it is?

does not look good at all:
[root@venus]# smartctl -H /dev/sdc
smartctl 5.39.1 2010-01-28 r3054 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] (local build)
Copyright (C) 2002-10 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net

=== START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION ===
SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: FAILED!

Failed Attributes:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME          FLAG     VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE      UPDATED  WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
  5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct   0x0033   007   007   036    Pre-fail  Always   FAILING_NOW 1922
196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0033   007   007   036    Pre-fail  Always   FAILING_NOW 1922

Good thing i have a raid with mirrord disk, but i really want to replace it as soon as possible if its crashed.
