MS OOXML Format MIME

I am trying to get the mime type of a docx file (I don't mind so much about the others) using PHP (5.3.x) with the FileInfo extension. It returns application/zip. I know why it does this (OOXML files are zipped) but I want to fix it. It is possible because it is right for OOo docs. The problem seems to stem from the file command and it's mime database. Has someone already fixed this? Can someone explain in simple terms how? I did read the man page but I'm not a huge amount wiser!
