KDE releases often and GNOME did a fat release
the result: someone have a segfault in an GNOME application and doesnt find his thread anymore where maybe already an solution is posted becease there are 20 KDE threads and 10 XFCE threads and 10 misc threads about DEs and WMs at all
I think at least GNOME and KDE should get there own Sub-Forum but this is just an idea which is maybe not already done for good reasons

and this should be in Forum and Wiki discussion so that this thread doesn't push down any other threads which belong in application and desktop environment sub-forum.
Moving...
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Your example is spurious, it's very easy to for the OP to find a post they made via User CP but your point is valid for new posts whores like myself who wouldn't see it. Out of interest what else would go in that particular subforum?
My suggestion would be to retrospectively merge threads about the same problem into a single thread although I have no idea how much extra work it would be for the staff.
I can't speak for gnome but kde has minor updates monthly and major updates six-monthly which I wouldn't call often
