GNOME Shell Sluggish [FIXED]

Hi everyone.  Having a problem with the GNOME Shell's special effects acting kind of slowly, which shouldn't be happening, I think.

My ThinkPad T410 has NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100m graphics and uses the proprietary driver, version 270.30.  I also set the PowerMizer setting in nvidia-settings to Prefer Maximum Performance.

The graphics performance with the Shell is amazing in the Fedora 15 Alpha (with RPMFusion and their current NVIDIA proprietary driver).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
TrevorNT

Nevermind, after a lot of searching I found an answer that fixed my problems.  Sorry to waste this precious thread space :-\ .

Re: GNOME Shell Sluggish [FIXED]

Wow that sounds like great hardware - tons more than you need for gnome-shell. I'm using Nvidia drivers 270.30 as well on my GTX-460-equipped desktop and gnome shell is very fast. Are you using a custom xorg.conf, by any chance? Was compositing working okay before you installed gnome 3 - say with compiz and gnome 2?

edit - oops sorry, didn't see your edit before I posted. What was the fix, if I may ask?

Had been, but that wasn't the issue.  Apparently there's something up with the gnome-shell and mutter packages in [testing].  I found alternative versions of the package in this thread.  They work perfectly.

In the future, never come back to your thread and say "nvm I fixed it" without telling us the solution. These things show up in search results and nothing makes me rage more than finding a thread with my problem but with someone that fixed it but didn't share. I know you did in your next post but just a quick plead.
