SOLVED Stuck with dysfunctional pacman 3.4.0-2

I just did a completely fresh netinstall on April 15, yet pacman is stuck on version 3.4.0-2 and will not update.
Furthermore, although I can install packages from the repositories, they apparently do not upgrade when newer versions become available as well.
I have waded through the massive forum postings on the topic of upgrading to pacman 3.5, but get lost in the confusing tangleweb of instructions about yaourt, pacman-color, reflector, perl-xyne-arch, pacman-db-upgrade, etc. etc. etc.

I have NONE of these other packages on my system.
All I need are simple, straight-forward instructions how to upgrade from a dysfunctional pacman 3.4.0-2 to a working current 3.5 version.

Define dysfunctional. Some more info might be helpful

Will not upgrade packages to newer versions.

Since my April 15 installation, I've noticed that several newer packages have become available, including
flashplugin 10.2.159.1-2 (I have 10.1.53.64.1)
udev 167-1 (I have 160-1)
kernal 2.6.38.3-1 (I have 2.6.34)

Why do I have all these old packages on a fresh netinstall???
I perform pacman -Syu every morining, and it tells me core, community and extra are all up to date, but there's nothing to do.

That is what I mean by dysfunctional.

Did you try switching to a different mirror?

Re: SOLVED Stuck with dysfunctional pacman 3.4.0-2

Did you "notice" several newer packages available by looking at the Arch site?

Likely a mirror issue to me.

Look here for a up-to-date mirror:
https://www.archlinux.org/mirrors/status/

Then edit your /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist, putting that mirror on top.

Edit:

If that's not the case, you can just update pacman first:

wget ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/core/os/i686/pacman-3.5.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz && pacman -U pacman-3.5.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

Replace i686 with x86_64 if you're running 64bit.
Then, run as root:

pacman-db-upgrade

Thank-you, that did the trick!

Holy Smoke..... now it looks like it's upgrading every doggone package in the entire system.

I guess it just must've been my bad bum luck to pick an out-of-date mirror for my netinstall.

But the current iso, 2010.05, is almost a year old, so I guess these things are bound to happen.
