Shutdown simply relogs

When I press "shutdown" from XFCE, I'm simply getting relogged to the system. "sudo shutdown now" does the same. "sudo shutdown -hP now" works, and really does shut the system down. This started happening after an update. I'm not using a login manager.

find an up to date mirror and Syu again.  the latest xfce packages fixed this.
