[Solved]Samba seems to not be discoverable

The output of testparm is as follows

Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384)
Processing section "[Music]"
Loaded services file OK.
Server role: ROLE_STANDALONE
Press enter to see a dump of your service definitions

[global]
    server string = %h server (Samba)
    interfaces = eth0, wlan0
    security = SHARE
    log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
    max log size = 50
    wins proxy = Yes
    wins server = w.x.y.z

[Music]
    comment = This is music.
    path = /media/89e3f549-f4a4-4780-a2d7-ba69397342f4/musicp3
    guest ok = Yes

I am trying to share the Music share with everyone on a LAN network without write permissions.  I cannot find it under the network section on any windows or linux boxes.

The command "smbclient -L jimmie" when no password is entered returns the following.

Enter jimmie's password:
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.5.8]

    Sharename       Type      Comment
    ---------       ----      -------
    IPC$ IPC IPC Service (myhost server (Samba))
    Music           Disk      This is music.
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.5.8]

    Server               Comment
    ---------            -------
    BETA-DIMENSION-      beta-Dimension-4300 server (Samba, Ubuntu)
    MYHOST               myhost server (Samba)

    Workgroup            Master
    ---------            -------
    WORKGROUP            BETA-DIMENSION-

Any help is appreciated

Re: [Solved]Samba seems to not be discoverable

Solved it with the following smb.conf file, though think part of my problem was possibly not restarting samba correctly.

[global]
workgroup = workgroup
netbios name = jimmie
server string = jimmie
security = share
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 50
map to guest = bad user
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
local master = no
dns proxy = no

[Music]
path = /media/89e3f549-f4a4-4780-a2d7-ba69397342f4/musicp3
public = yes
writable = no
browsable = yes

Re: [Solved]Samba seems to not be discoverable

Moderator:  Glad it is solved.  Two things:

  • If it is solved, please edit your first post and change the thread topic  by adding  [SOLVED]

  • Please use BBCode code tags when posting files and program output.  It formats it to make it far more readable, and adds scroll bars for longer passages.

Thanks
