ancient phpbb install

Hello there,

I am trying to install a very ancient phpbb 2.0.8 on my archlinux to view a really old forum.

I have managed to setup the database and webfiles/php, and can access the forum fine, at least the front page. I even edited my /etc/hosts file to point the original domain name to 127.0.0.1 and setup apache vhost for this domain name so that minimal messing with the archive would be needed.

However, I am running into trouble when trying to login. It simply redirects me to the login page without any error message. Also, when I try to access a forum category, it tells me that "the selected forum doesn't exist". I am assuming these two are related.

I do have /phpBB and /forums requests in my apache log file as 404, so I did add an alias for these pointing to my root but still that didn't help.

Is anyone in here smart enough and has any pointers as to how to troubleshoot what is going on so I can fix this?
