Cannot connect to FreeNX server

I installed FreeNX as per the wiki and I tried using the pubkey generated during install as well as the default key that all clients use (again, as per the wiki).

The one option that confused me in the wiki was for /etc/ssh/sshd_config   called "AllowedUsers someuser nx"  -- I don't see this option in sshd_config and I've never used it, though my sshd works just fine.

Trying to connect to the machine with FreeNX, however, I always receive a message that says "Authentication failed for user nx."

Is there something else that I can try?  Do I have to use pubkeys or can I just log in with a password?  Interestingly, the nxclient REQUIRES me to input a password so I had to change make a password for the user "nx" first.
