Upgraded Xampp and now "Error establishing a database connection"

I hadn't upgraded Xampp for...well...it's been about 6 months or so.

I had Xampp running a local-only wordpress page (used to work on designs for my wife) and now when I try to navigate to it I get

Error establishing a database connection

The thing is I can get to http://localhost/xampp/ and phpmyadmin just fine.  The Xampp status screen shows everything green and activated (except a couple of php extnesions).

I had this all set up quite a while back and I forget exactly all the hoops I jumped through to get it working so I don't even know where to start looking.
Any ideas?
