I need to get the network status in a script, something like the status row in the bottom of wicd-curses. Was planning to parse it a bit put it in my xmobarpanel.
It's basically "Not connected", "Connecting to <SSID>..." "Obtaining IP-address..." and "Connected to <network>" and so on. Is it an easy way to do this?
wicd-cli -dy (-d for network details and -y for wireless) doesn't give me enough information.
Tried reading the sources to wicd but my pythonskills is kind of non existant, so I would be very thankful if someone could me out here.

I can't hack a script for you, but check out the Wireless plugin made for xmobar. It can display the essid and quality of a wireless connection.

What about extracting what you need from "iwconfig" or even "iwlist wlan0 scan" ? Does that give you the info you need?
