Digikam uses ~1GB Ram, is it normal?

It uses ~350MB when it starts, and after browsing & editing some photos, it goes over 960MB.
As a result I have to quit the program before I start another memory-consuming application like virtualbox.

Please post the output of 'free -m' while you're doing some heavy lifting w/ Virtualbox or Digikam.

Before starting digikam:

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 3899 3291 608 0 655 1339
-/+ buffers/cache: 1297 2602
Swap: 0 0 0

when it starts:

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 3899 3668 231 0 662 1350
-/+ buffers/cache: 1656 2243
Swap: 0 0 0

5min after:

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 3899 3754 145 0 655 1219
-/+ buffers/cache: 1879 2020
Swap: 0 0 0

in "top":

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 9103 zhangyou 20 0 1843m 608m 62m S 0 15.6 3:21.67 digikam

If I keep using it the memory usage keeps going up. Yesterday I saw a peak at ~1000MB. So I am wondering if it is a normal thing so that I don't have to worry about it.

Re: Digikam uses ~1GB Ram, is it normal?

I've used digiKam for many years and I've given up worrying about it being a memory and a cpu hog. This is normal which is a pity because it's a brilliant app.

Good to hear that. I love this app very much so I would as well stop worrying.
