how do I use https proxy?

I need to use HTTPS proxy to connect to internet?
In windows, I use proxifier which has an option for HTTPS proxy & that software has an option to add applications which can use that proxy.

I already tried using https_proxy environment variable. Apps just use my direct internet connection..

The only way it worked was when I used proxifier in windows to use https proxy.

Ok looks like the application you want to use doesn't read those environment variables. That's too bad. What application is it you have in mind? A browser?

How about setting the proxy settings for FF from the [Advanced] -> [Network] settings? Set it [Manually]. You will then be prompted for your proxy credentials when you want to connect to the net...

You are using it wrong© here firefox uses the proxy I tell it to use. If firefox can't authenticate then it should just fail, not fallback on direct connection to the internet.

On another note ... I guess that if you specify the http proxy to what you need to use and tell firefox to use that proxy for everything then it should work.

@rookie The proxy which I am using doesnt have any authentication. Its a simple https proxy without a password(now, dont ask me why is that so).
Any I am telling this with confidence because I already have it running under windows using proxifier.
And I have tried entering that proxy in http field & telling it to "use this proxy for all protocols"; still no success.

Any ideas?
