I'm trying to get Arch going on an old HP for my mom. I had fluxbox working, but I didn't like the resolution at 800x600. I tried xrandr and apparently that is the max. I thought it was because I was using the wrong video card (I was using vesa, lspci says I have the Radeon Xpress 200G series so I figured I could use the ATI driver for better results?).
I think know I might have messed something up in switching drivers however. Several rounds of installing/removing with pacman followed by reboots, these are the error messages I am stuck with:
(EE) module ABI major version (8) doesn't match the server's version (10)
(EE) Failed to load module "ati" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "vesa" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available.
Fatal server error:
no screens foundI currently have xf86-video-ati installed. This also happens with xf86-video-vesa now though.
I would post the log file at /var/log/Xorg.0.log but I'm not sure how to get it since I can't startx on that computer. If keying it in is necessary I will.
Thanks for reading.
EDIT: This was a fresh CD install so it wasn't too hard to reinstall and pull down what I had before. It seems like the problem went away since I only installed the ATI drivers. Marking as solved.

login at the terminal and copy the log file on a usb and then post it here.
are you also using a xorg.conf? Try without it and see if it works.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !
