Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

Could you post the contents of your MODULES array in /etc/rc.conf as well as your /etc/fstab file?

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

are you living under a rock?

Module blacklisting has been deprecated in the rc.conf file for two months and MOD_AUTOLOAD from even before that. Please read announcements and also the output from pacman when upgrading AND most importantly, take the steps necessary to merge the pacnew files.

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

In regards to the mounts failing, which of those are not mounted after you boot up?

I really don't know.
The laptop works fine, even if I still have problems with the auto-mounting of usb flash drives (but I think it's not related with the FAIL during the boot up).
It could be the swap partition, but I don't know how to test it.
Sorry for the not so clarifying answer. I'm trying to learn as soon as possible, but with Arch Linux every day there is something new. This is good and interesting for me but sometimes it's difficult to catch up smile

It could have something to do with the external drives you're trying to mount. Check out https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fs … al_devices

Also, to see if your swap partition is mounted, run:

free -m

If the Swap section reports 0, that means your swap partition is not mounted.

Mrstegeman, this means that the swap partition isn't mounted?

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

The first column tells you how much you have available. You have 258M of swap available, so your swap is mounted.

Ok, I still have that fail during the 'Mounting Local Filesystems'.
If there isn't the swap partition it should be something else from my fstab..

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

Bisect it... comment out half the mounts, boot, see if you still get a failure. Continue on from there... I'd start with the ntfs mounts. I'd be wary of using 'auto' in fstab. Related: If the FS module isn't available at the time the partition is mounted, auto will probably fail.

Agreed, 'auto' is probably bad.  Those look like vfat UUID's to me, so maybe change those entries to 'vfat'.

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

Thank you for your advice guys.
The problem is related with both the ntfs partitions, because if I comment them the boot goes on well. But without comment them it fails. Do you have any suggestion on what could be?
I've also changed the auto partition with vfat.

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

Perhaps you don't understand what I mean by bisect...

Assume that you have 8 mounts, 1 through 8.
1) Comment out 5-8. Test.
  - Still failing? The problem is with one of 1-4.
  - No failure? The problem is with one of 5-8.
2) Based on step 1, comment out half of the remaining 4 mounts. Let's assume it's 5-8. Comment out 5-6.
  - Still failing? 7 or 8 is the issue.
  - No failure? 5 or 6 is the issue.

Continue on in this manner until it's clear what the problem is. The best any outsider observer can muster is a guess.

Yes, I did it. The issue is with both the ntfs partitions (UUID=325220A852207331 and UUID=3F9D788B3774630C based on my previus post).

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

Hello,
I've got the same problem (fail during mounting filesystem)
Here is my fstab :

#
# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0

/dev/sda3 / ext4 defaults 0 1
/dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0

/dev/cdrom /media/cd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/dvd /media/dvd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/fl auto user,noauto 0 0

I've tried to comment the last three lines but it didn't worked.
This is very annoying, since the moment I got the problem everything goes normaly exept for the shutting down. It always says "an error has occured" and stops doing anything. I've got to shut it down myself.

Thank you for your help

@Maxime
Is your system up to date? Did you merge all the .pacnew files?

Re: Loading Modules and Mounting Local Filesystems failed during boot

@karol thank you. It seems I didn't noticed this one.
It worked for this error but my pc still crashes while shutting down and I don't know where to begin. Where can I find the accurate log file ?
[EDIT] It seems that with the LTS kernel the system shuts down well. Thank you again !
