Always worked, but now when I try to save an image, the Save dialog box does not appears at all.
It will show on alt+tab dialog, but still can't see it on the screen.
"Save As" work on other GTK apps, so it shouldn't be related to my GTK installation.
Any idea on what's going on?

I got a simiar problem. The "save image"-box freezes. I've just performed "rm -rf .gimp-2.6/", but no difference there.

Now Gimp seems to work just as it should. I've got the image files at a NFS server, that might have caused my problem. Deleted ~/,gimp-2.6, and opened and saved a local image at my workstation, and everything works. Tried the images on the NFS server, and it works too.
