No sound from HD5670, connected via HDMI

I am getting no sound output, settings seem to indicate it should be working (audio programs recognised as outputting audio) but no sound can be heard. I also noticed there is no PCM option when I run alsamixer. Output of aplay -l is:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC662 rev1 Digital [ALC662 rev1 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Any help appreciated.

I'm really stuck with this, anyone else got any suggestions? I'm using the opensource driver and GNOME Shell if that helps.

I presume you've also tried using the latest proprietary "ATI catalyst" drivers ?, as per https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst  ?

The "BSD" things in life are "Free", and "Open", and so is "Arch"
