sound no longer working, other partitions no longer visible (nautilus)

hey guys!

after the recent kernel update and another update today some things don't work anymore. these are:

- other partitions are no longer visible in nautilus (non-linux partitions) so I can't access them
- sound is no longer working

I don't know what to do, I'm quite new to linux. it worked before the updates just fine but now it's all messed up. can someone please tell me what I can do about it?

much appreciated, thanks!

check your logs, specifically pacman.log to see what was updated. Just by saying "another update today" doesn't help. How are we to know what you updated?

Re: sound no longer working, other partitions no longer visible (nautilus)

Well first I did a pacman -Syu update in which the kernel was renamed. I changed the grub menu list accordingly.
The second systemwide update was yesterday. I tried restarting the oss module as asked in the update process, but it had no effect.

Here's the log you asked for:

I'm a little confused by this part:

[2011-08-12 18:11] Please note that OSS stores some of its configuration files
[2011-08-12 18:11] at /usr/lib/oss. If you are upgrading from an older OSS
[2011-08-12 18:11] release and it doesn't work properly, try removing that
[2011-08-12 18:11] directory and reinstall this package.

Okay, removing the /usr/lib/oss folder shouldn't be a problem. but what packages should I be reinstalling, OSS only?? (pacman -S oss?)

Also how do I enable seeing non-linux partitions in Nautilus again?

that would be:

modprobe.conf
usb-load-ehci-first.conf

is it of any help?
