[SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

Hi

I have ASUS k50ij, XFCE is installed as Desktop environment. After 10 minutes of inactivity i got a blank screen. I have disabled XFCE power manager, i have stoped acpid and laptop-mode-tools daemon, but i still get a blank screen after 10 minutes of inactivity. Who controls that actions? How can i change it?
Thanks

Re: [SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

Post the output of 'xset -q'.

'xset s off &' in my .xinitrc disables screen blanking. 'setterm -blank 0' in /etc/rc.local works in the console.

I will try your soulution with .xinitrc because when i type 'xset s off' in terminal nothing is changed. I will report.

Re: [SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

Your screensaver kicks in after 10 minutes.
Read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DPMS and post if you have any problems. You have to source the changed files (or e.g. relogin).

Edit: You mean the output of 'xset q' is the same after 'xset s off'? Weird, works here.

[karol@black test]$ xset s on
[karol@black test]$ xset q | grep -A2 "Screen Saver"
Screen Saver:
prefer blanking: yes allow exposures: yes
  timeout: 600 cycle: 600
[karol@black test]$ xset s off
[karol@black test]$ xset q | grep -A2 "Screen Saver"
Screen Saver:
prefer blanking: yes allow exposures: yes
  timeout: 0 cycle: 600

You may also want to disable dpms with 'xset -dpms'.

Sorry for misunderstanding - actually it works. It is me for being too sloppy because i didn't check the numbers (600 or 0). I thought that the section "Prefer Blanking" should be "off" and didn't care for 600 or 0. Now when i do 'xset s off' i got 0.

thanks, problem solved.

Re: [SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

The only problem is that 'xset -dpms &' doesn't work in .xinitrc though other commans do (like xset s off). But when i am in session i can disable dpms in terminal. Weird.

Re: [SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

Did you source .xinirtc after you made the change? Or maybe relogin.
I'm not using 'xset -dpms' so I don't know if it works this way.

Re: [SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

Yes, i log out and relogin. I have even restart the computer.
xset -q:

Actually, standby is 0, so is suspend, but whay does it write: "DPMS is Enabled"

EDIT:
Then, if i do in terminal 'xset -dpms' then it writes "DPMS is Disabled"

Re: [SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

I use something like this to get that pesky blanking to stop... I know it's overkill, but I found this issue quite frustrating:

xset s noblank
xset s noexpose
xset s 0 0
xset s off
xset dpms 0 0 0
xset -dpms

On some rare occasions, these settings actually revert themselves and I'll have to run those commands again. I have no idea why it happens. (I don't have any power management tools running, no DE, and no xscreensaver.)

Re: [SOLVED]Who controls LCD blanking?

I found the solution. The problem is that somewhere in the process of starting .xinitrc 'xset -dpms' command is overwriten. So, to get a working command you have to put in .xinitrc:

sleep 10s && xset -dpms &

Maybe is 10 seconds too much but i didn't try other values. It is also important to add '&' at the end of  the command or else it won't work becaust it will be overwritten.

According to the wiki, one second should be enough
