Fuppes Problems

Hello, I have been running arch on a home media server now for about a year and have been running Fuppes successfully for the whole time I have had the setup. Recently I moved and now Fuppes will no longer run for me, resulting in a Segmentation Fault when I try to run it. I have tried uninstalling my version which I built and installing from the AUR instead and it is still the same. The setup here is almost identical to the one at my previous location. I ran dmesg after the seg faults and this is the output

[ 2089.877246] fuppes[6293]: segfault at 18 ip 00007ff1bba759bc sp 00007ff1ad20c7e0 error 4 in libfuppes.so.0.0.0[7ff1bba03000+112000]

Any ideas what I can do to fix this?

Re: Fuppes Problems

Upgrading obviously wasn't the best thing to do as I now get this error when I try to run nearly anything:

sudo: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by sudo)

I have tried running taking a copy of libc.so.6 out of a previous version of libc.so.6 and running pacman with libc.so.6 but I need root/sudo to do that and I can't access either. I tried making an ssh connection as root but apparently ssh no longer works to it either. Am I completely screwed now? I am afraid to reboot because I do not have a screen or keyboard to troubleshoot it once it restarts.

Re: Fuppes Problems

Do you have any packages that are not upgraded (maybe they are held back in /etc/pacman.conf)?

If the problems with Fuppes persist: that app is not developed anymore IIRC. I have used mediatomb after fuppes, and now I'm using pms-svn. In my opinion it's the best choice for a DLNA-server.

Re: Fuppes Problems

Yes I believe I had a few things set to be held back, I will check and make sure to remove them once I am able to get a monitor and keyboard here. Are Mediatomb and/or PS3 MediaServer able to be run without a GUI on a sever? I loved using Fuppes because I could set and manage it all from a screen session when I SSHed to my server. Would either of those provide similar functionality?

Re: Fuppes Problems

Yes. Both worked great on my headless Arch server. I even created a wiki-entry about DLNA-servers, with my own config files attached to it.

To this day, PMS is the only one being able to stream both subtitles and a movie file with 5.1 surround sound to my PS3. Fuppes was great because it is lightweight and mediatomb was also good, but could not deliver the above. PMS is written in Java and has that for a dependency, which is the reason why I didn't want to switch to it, but in the end it turns out I should have switched a lot sooner.

Re: Fuppes Problems

Ok I've been using PS3 Media Server for the past couple of days and have generally liked it so far but I have been unable to find a way to update my media library for the command line or even the web interface. Do you know if there is a command to do this? I've looked around their forums quite a bit but any of the threads on their boards have gone unanswered. Also is there way to stop it from transcoding mp4 and wmv files? It used to play them all fine in Fuppes.

Re: Fuppes Problems

The media library should update itseld avery time a new file is added to the watchfolders. If you really need to rebuild the dbase, then you should simply remove or rename the old dbase-files and restart pms.

Changing transcoding settings is done in the renderer profile for your device. Mine is a ps3, so I could tweak the device settings in the file designated for the ps3. In the log files you can see which profile is loaded for your device. I have never done that, but it is a text-format profile, so it should be straightforward.
