wusb54g slow in linux

Hey, so I just moved into a house with a friend and they have uverse and so I'm having to use wireless now.  I have an old WUSB54G linksys adapter and have gotten it working, but it is impossibly slow, takes several minutes to load a page.  I did an lsmod and these seem to be running:

rt2500usb 18297 0
rt2x00usb 8980 1 rt2500usb
rt2x00lib 33999 2 rt2500usb,rt2x00usb
mac80211 214197 2 rt2x00usb,rt2x00lib
cfg80211 159268 2 rt2x00lib,mac80211

i'm not sure what is going on here, as I thought the trt2500 drivers were deprecated and replaced by the rt2x00 driver, but both seem to be in use, maybe that is my problem?

edit:  i tried blacklisting the rt2500 but I guess it is still needed, going to try and get a new adapter i guess
