can i put samba on only one box?

if i setup a 2nd arch box and install samba server on it, will i have to install samba client on my first arch box to access a 3rd windows machine?

What i was hoping was i can install samba server on the 2nd box only, and still have access from 1st box(with no samba on it) to another windows machine by sending the request through box 2's samba server.

Re: can i put samba on only one box?

Your #2 box could mount the #3 windows shares, your #1 box can then access #2 by e.g. ssh/nfs or another network filesystem. That is definitely not a sane setup and I do not recommend it.

Re: can i put samba on only one box?

yeah, not if i have to do it that way.  so theres no native way to port box#1 through box#2 to get to 3 without doing anything unorthodox?
