wget and ipv6 issue

I recently moved to a switched from time warner cable to verizon dsl. Unfortunately I now have many networking problems on linux (windows works fine). Thunderbird is constantly busy and can't download mail (works on windows) and wget takes a very long time (few seconds) to resolve ip addresses unless the -4 flag is given to force it to use ipv4. I'm hoping the thunderbird and wget issues are related, since wget is much simpler. Any ideas how to fix wget w/o the -4 flag? I tried disabling ipv6 using options 1 and 2 from the webpage below, but neither helped even after rebooting.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Disabling_IPv6

I know one of many things could be wrong, but a list of possible things would be very helpful.

Re: wget and ipv6 issue

Hello,

I have the same problem here. Downgrading glibc to 2.14-5 seems to solve the problem.

There is a bug report here: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/26007?p … &sort=desc
If downgrading glibc works for you, feel free to add your comment, as I don't write a good english.

Downgrading didn't help me. I also have the same problem on a different computer using Ubuntu. Any ideas what the problem could be?

I have the same problem, also after having tried options 1 and 2 as you did. I did not try downgrading glibc since you said that didn't help yours.
