[Solved] Wireless AP via ad-hoc mode?

Due to odd circumstances, I'm trying to figure out how to connect my android phone via the WiFi of my laptop onto an ethernet network. My wifi card (ath9k), however, does not support master mode, but at the same time android does not support ad-hoc wifi connections.

This ubuntu article suggests that it is possible to use ad-hoc mode to create an impromptu router: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Router, but I can't quite follow all the networking steps utilizing the /etc/network/interfaces file.

I have successfully created an ad-hoc network following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad-hoc_networking, but haven't quite figured out how to extend these directions to create a regular wireless connection that my android (HTC Inspire 4G, OS 2.3.3) will recognize. Anyone have a good idea or a brain storm?

Just discovered hostapd, a truly amazing tool that can put ath9k-using cards into master mode, and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/So … cess_Point. I also opened up my firewall by changing

iptables -P FORWARD DROP

to

iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT

and by executing

echo 1 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

(following the non-nat portion of https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Si … _Firewall)
All other iptable combinations (including the NAT instructions in the Simple Stateful Firewall guide) blocked my android's access to even dhcp, and hostapd seems to take care of any masquarading needed.
