Using wired and wireless networks with DLNA on the wireless network

Dear all,

I want to use internet wired access and connect through wireless to another router with a tv screen with DLNA capabilities... (I know it would be best to just use cable, but in this case it can not be, and the TV has no wifi adapter, only ethernet...)

I have been trying to figure out how to work this out but have been unable to do so after reading and searching. I am no good with networks but I thought this should be easier...

Let me tell you my computer/router/tv structure first, I have;

1 router connected to my ISP which gives me acess to internet, connected through ethernet wire to my main pc
1 old router which I want to use only as wireless network, in order to give DLNA signal to my tv which is connected through ethernet port

I have the wired ethernet (eth1) connected to my main router the wireless card (wlan0) connected to the old router, so in theory DLNA should get to the tv screen...

eth1 inet addr:192.168.1.36  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
wlan0 inet addr:192.168.2.33  Bcast:192.168.2.255  Mask:255.255.255.0

No matter how I set it up, if the ethernet is connected on the pc, the DNLA signal is not sent through the wireless network, however I can actually ping the old router wich only has a wireless network. Note that I do not want or need internet acess sharing through the old router wireless network or bridging, only want to send a DLNA signal over a "home wireless network".

Please could someone give me a hint on what to search for or if this is impossible? I am using minidlna, I have not tried with mediatomb or similars.

Thanks so much and best regards smile

The DLNA-service should be broadcasted across the network. pms in AUR does that for you, I don't know if minidlna takes care of that for you.

He uses two networks - 192.168.1.255 and 192.168.2.255.

I think that you may need to open up the /etc/minidlna.conf file and update the network_interface to point to your wireless interface.

e.g. network_interface=wlan0

Re: Using wired and wireless networks with DLNA on the wireless network

Thanks for the replies!

miniDLNA is actually broadcasting it; if I connect the tv through ethernet cable (25m cable running wild from one side to other side of my home) is properly getting the DLNA signal. I can also connect my mobile phone which is DLNA compliant to the wireless network of my main router (connected through ethernet to my pc), however is not showing up on the second router's network (connected through wifi card to my pc).

I already tried to set the network interface on /etc/minidlna.conf (with wlan0 and even eth0/1) but whatever I put there shows an error when loading dlna and just shows "ignoring" on the prompt.

Maybe there is a bug on this network interface selection? Has anyone tried to set this parameter with success?

Does mediatomb has different and working network broadcasting selection?

From your answers I understand that should be working/feasible as I can ping both networks right?

Thanks again smile
