[Resolved] Missing modules?

I have been installing from source and following the beginners instruction on the wiki but it seems as though I have missed something as I have got as far as producing a ~xinitrc file and trying to startx. When I Try get an error saying it failed to load module vesa and module fbdev (I have run the startx test and got the three windows and a clock). I checked my rc.conf file and it is empty, I am guessing I have missed a something and wondering if so can I go back and rerun just the bit I missed. If not how do I build a rc.conf file, I have been looking at the rc.conf section in the wiki, do I basically copy that?

Also my laptop keyboard is currently defaulted to american, how do I get it to UK?

Thanks in advance

Those errors are harmless.

Re: [Resolved] Missing modules?

Thanks for the reply, but two point I forgot to add to my original post was the fact that X does not run (as in I don't get a graphical interface) and I also get "[KMS] Kernel modsetting enabled" although I don't believe the latter is a problem?

I have had a look in Xorg.0.log and it seems as thought the radeon driver is being loaded (the laptop has an ATI Card). Any suggestion why X is failing to start?

Re: [Resolved] Missing modules?

I don't get it: you wrote that 'startx' got you three terminals and a clock - seems OK. Are you using any WM / DE?
An empty /etc/rc.conf is obviously wrong.
Post your Xorg.0.log.

Re: [Resolved] Missing modules?

When I did not have the /.xinitrc file all I got was a flashing hyphen in the top left corner of the screen when I tried to run startx as a user. In my /.xinitrc file I have removed the hash symbol  from startkde (I have installed KDE), when I type startx the three windows and clock pop up but nothing else.

I will have to workout how to get a copy of the log file off the laptop so that I can post it on here. Unfortunately that is a job for later tomorrow as I am off to bed.

Thanks for the help to date

Re: [Resolved] Missing modules?

After having a little play this afternoon I decide to do a complete reinstall as it was obvious that something was not right. Thankfully the second install seem to have worked perfectly.

Thanks for the help
