Samba + KDE -- Fails to save

Hello,

I am running the most recent version of KDE with the stock Dolphin file manager. I'm using the basic 'Samba' packages from extra/ repo.

Upon right-click'ing a directory and moving to the 'Share' tab I find this screen:

unledxxf.png

Regardless of what I change, the options revert back to 'Share with Samba' being toggled on and everything else erased. Upon reboot, it has reset back to a clean slate. Furthermore, although I can properly see and navigate the other computers on my network, none of the directories I attempt to share appear for us.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I would be extremely thankful. Any more information I can give, feel free to request.

Re: Samba + KDE -- Fails to save

I think you have to share folders in systemsettings.

Re: Samba + KDE -- Fails to save

Okay, so update on this, since I STILL CANT SHARE with my network. I've never had an OS issue persist for this long unsolved.

The only relevant option in KDE system settings is default username and password for accessing network shares. I can access external shares fine, I just cant share my own directories.

I followed this Wiki article explicitly, as recommended in our IRC:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sa … _with_KDE4

I had to 'su' to carry out the instructions. I compiled the .c files with gcc as instructed. After doing that, I carried out all steps without a hitch save for a seemingly harmless warning during the .c compiles.* I have all listed prequisites. Still, I had no success. I am offered no additional options and I still cant share directories.

It seems to be a permission issue to me. So i tried logging in as root and directly sharing that way. Still nothing.

Come on guys, I could really use some help here. sad

Re: Samba + KDE -- Fails to save

Nope, not the GUI way, anyway. And my comment re systemsettings is outdated as of KDE 4.8.

I suggest you build yourself a very simple smb.conf from scratch - I was surprised when mine actually did what I wanted it to wink

Re: Samba + KDE -- Fails to save

I'm going to bump this.
Did anyone find a solution for sharing files using the GUI? I did manage to get samba working using a manually created smb, conf, but that doesn't seem like a complete solution given the fact that we're on KDE 4.8.3 now.

I've followed the instructions in the Wiki to the t. Also, I can't seem to find the "fileshare" module mentioned there.

Re: Samba + KDE -- Fails to save

smb4k is a nice client programme that sits in the systray.
