hi, on my first post in the archlinux forum
i'm searching for a vpn server and i'd like to know whats better openvpn or openswan?
it should be compatible with the most os's and versions(out of the box no extra software).
it should be save(ssl or something similar).
i'm open for new ideas and other perspectives.

If you expect many Android clients, prefer openswan.

I'd say the official documentation covers it: http://wiki.openswan.org/
There is a package "openswan" in the AUR. It's flagged as out of date, but I bet you manage to modify the PKGBUILD for the latest version. It's not that hard (and documented well in the wiki).

Android can use OpenVPN without problem as long it has the module and the OpenVPN application installed (note : Cyanogen mod has it natively). So, most of the times, you'll have to root it.
I have OpenVPN client running on my Nexus S through my internet provider proxy and an OpenVPN server at home and it is pretty smooth.
But sure, if it's for a lot of Android devices (like for a company), it's better using OpenSwan.
