[solved] touchpad not working properly

Hi all,

just installed arch with gnome 3 and everything seems to be working fine (even wireless internet!) except the touchpad on my laptop (hp pavillion dm-1).

I can use it to move the cursor fine, and pushing it in to click works as a click, but I can't right click and I can't tap to click, there is also no scrolling (2 finger or side)

In the gnome 3 settings, when I go to "Mouse and Touchpad" there is no touchpad tab:

touchpadtabthumb.png

when I run cat /proc/bus/input/devices:

.....

I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1
N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input14
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse0 event12
B: PROP=d
B: EV=b
B: KEY=6420 10000 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=260800011000003

So it is being detected, but there's something I need to do, any ideas?

I've seen "syndaemon" written a lot on the forums but I don't know what it is and don't have it installed, would this help? I couldn't find it in pacman...

Also, on this same laptop I used to use archbang linux (arch based) and tapping and 2 finger scrolling worked fine, so I know it's possible to get the touchpad working under arch

Thanks for reading

You could try to install Synaptics

pacman -S xf86-input-synaptics

it's a driver for laptop touchpads. Maybe this article is also of some help:

Hi gav989,

welcome to the forums. Please have a look at our forum etiquette, esp. at the "Pasting Pictures and Code" section.

The image you posted is too big, but only slightly, so I leave it there for now. You may want to look at these screenshot posting rules as well.
