[solved] Easiest way to transfer files from linux to windows?

I want to convert my disks to raid 0, and as such I need to transfer some files onto my laptop through lan. My latop has Windows 7 Professional installed.
I tried to set up samba but

pdbedit -a -u pcclient

tdbsam_open: Failed to open/create TDB passwd [/etc/samba/private/passdb.tdb]
tdbsam_getsampwnam: failed to open /etc/samba/private/passdb.tdb!
Failed to add entry for user pcclient.

and NFS Client is only available to Enterprise and Ultimate editions of windows.
Is there a simple way to do this?

Also is there a simple way to transfer the files back from the windows machine onto the linux machine?

How about a ssh connection and sftp?

Years since I used samba, but can't you just set up pyneighborhood or smbnetfs in Arch?

Just wanted to add you don't need to setup the TDB passwd. Just have samba listen on your local internet and create a public share (which will be visible only in your LAN). Then you can browse your network in windows and see the share.
