[SOLVED] Cannot resolve dependencies while installing

Right now I'm in the process of installing arch to my laptop, but I'm getting the same (frustratingly easily solvable) problem that I've always had while trying to install arch.

Everything is fine, I set the sources, editor, clock, disk, etc. I select the packages for the DEs I'd like to use (I've never been able to install them without another DE in place), hooray, but when I start install packages, pacman spazzes and decides it cannot resolve dependencies. I've tried selecting the packages again but this time with the packages pacman says it doesn't have, and then pacman decides that there will be more unresolved dependencies. Is this because pacman wasn't configured yet? Or do I have to know all the require dependencies for the DEs and the plugins I would like to have?

Other information that may be useful:
Laptop is a Gateway, 4GB RAM, intel i3, I'm installing arch to a logical partition roughly 15GB in size, I asked the installer to look for packages on the CD before going to the internet, I had to set up my wireless with wpa_supplicant in another terminal, the package groups from the "general packages" selection are gnome, gnome extras, gimp help, all the xorg ones, the compiz ones, xfce, lxde, enlightenment packages, and libreoffice, and a few plugin packages. Also note that I don't NEED all four DEs, I can be extremely happy with just compiz and GNOME2, but I would like to have them.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot resolve dependencies while installing

you can try installing just the core first and after its done , you can do group install like gnome-shell, gnome-extra.but i dont think you can expect gnome2,arch is already in gnome3 for > 6 months.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot resolve dependencies while installing

Well that's specifically why I want to install gnome from my slightly older netinstall cd, because it has gnome2. (I despise gnome3). Also, never have have I been able to install a DE from a base install, and nor do I want to. I was just hoping someone knows what is wrong (mirror is down, or maybe pacman is not configured correctly) and can tell me how to get these dependencies working.

gnome2

It won't work, it doesn't work.

Edit for clarification:  It doesn't exist on arch repo's any more, nor is it on a netinstall cd.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot resolve dependencies while installing

So I can't use my current netinstall cd? If I really want gnome2  should I download an older not-netinstall cd? And yeah, thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot resolve dependencies while installing

Why do you want to use Arch if you need gnome 2? AFAIK apart from MATE [1] there's no way to properly do it, you won't be able to update your system if you somehow install gnome 2.

Edit: No version of Arch install images had gnome 2 ever.

If you really want gnome 2, you'll have to use another distro.  You could try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MATE though.
