Oh my! This problem is a huge pain in the butt!
It seems that most of the time only every other keystroke registers on my HTPC running arch when I am in the tty screen.
I know this isn't an issue with my input device as it happens with both my wired keyboard and my wireless mini remote keyboard. I have had a hard time finding anything on line about similar problems and was wondering if anyone might have a clue as to what might be behind this issue.
Thanks in advance!

I have had this problem before but can't recall with certainty exactly what caused it. I vaguely remember this having something to do with the slim login manager (the hidecursor option?).

In what situations exactly does this happen, is it when X is running and you're switching to a tty? If yes, how are you starting X?

I've had this problem before, when SLiM was installed.

Does it do it also in tty2? I've had the problem and also read about it in this forum previously... Had to do with some program reading from stdin in tty1 I think.
(I've never used SLIM btw, always automatic login to X.)

yah.This happens to me ,now.
It just happens when I'm on tty1, So I turned to tty2 each time I needed a console.

Here's the fix:
In "/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf" add:
# Fix key skip problem in tty
options psmouse rate=40
Does that fix it?
I learned it somewhere on the Arch forums...
Found it! https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 79#p865979

Slim again. Now for the scolding: A search of the forums should have turned that up.

Hmmm I didn't have slim installed. So how would I have known to search for 'slim' in the forums? And of course, how would that have helped me anyway as, once again, no slim.

Google search phrase:
site:archlinux.org tty1 loses keystrokes
turns up a thread regarding this Slim as the first result. But, you say that Slim is not the culprit; now this thread is interesting again
Does the problem exist on the other ttys?

Seems my post was overlooked. ennui, how exactly are you starting X?

I can confirm this problem on my system as well. No Slim. I use startx to launch X.
