Sony-Ericsson X10 set up as portable Wi-Fi hotspot

I've been using the X10 as portable Wi-Fi hotspot for a while (mostly on 'WPA2 PSK', to be on the safe side),
but couldn't connect under ArchLinux except if I set it to 'Open'. 'wifi-radar' came up with an error-message
'device does not support scanning' - which sounds strange in case it refers to wlan0.

Has anyone had a go at using an X10 as portable Wi-Fi hotspot?

BTW, good old XANDROS (eeePC 701) works first time every time (Open and WPA2 PSK), same as Ken
Robotti's RIP on the same hardware (eeePC 701).

Tom.
