Arch backup server need to improve connection speed

Got a base install of Arch on my backup server, added openssh and can access machine form my desktop

Rsync via ssh is very very very slow, so thinking about using NFS

Set up a static connection via wireless which works fine but I cannot access the web [to update system!]

If I run dhcpcd wlan0 I can use pacman again, wondering if its a resolv.conf issue. Maybe my haste to set up system smile

Re: Arch backup server need to improve connection speed

I think your wireless is the bottleneck rather than rsync. If I use SSH over my LAN the encryption is barely a factor - the speeds are good, and almost as close to the theoretical maximum as possible).

Re: Arch backup server need to improve connection speed

That might be the answer hook it up to ethernet like a usb external drive....

Had wireless card in my parts box so just used it, like the idea of a remote [well in another room!] server

Not too mention network work be easy to set up too

Thanks

Re: Arch backup server need to improve connection speed

If you have the opportunity to connect it through Ethernet, that's always preferable. Wireless seldomly comes close to its nominal speeds, unlike Ethernet.

If you have a modern CPU the encryption part (SSH) shouldn't put any strains on your system either.

Re: Arch backup server need to improve connection speed

Server is an Atom based machine dual core 1.6Ghz with 2gb of ram and a 250gb hard drive going to add a second drive in the near future

Running a base Arch x86_64 install [ <500mb ]

Got plenty of ethernet cables laying around
