[SOLVED] DNS Problems?

I recently went through upgrading pacman and the rest of my system (waited too long on that one), and now I find that the internet has gone squiffy on me. Chrome works without a problem - it can browse through the internet and all that. I can ping normally also, but neither firefox nor pacman work. I can enter an IP address into firefox and have it load, but something like 'google.com' won't load, which is what makes me think it might be a problem with DNS (it seems like google kind of sort of has its own resolution methods), but I can't figure out where things have gone wrong. Using either wicd or networkmanager the problem is the same.
Sorry if the answer is right in my face, but I haven't been able to find much in the way of troubleshooting help for DNS problems.

[edit] It may also be something to do with IPv6 (using 'wget -4' works, but not just wget).

Have you tried disabling ipv6?

If that doesn't work, post the output of

dig google.com

If you use pdnsd (I mention it because it's got a current quirk that leads to similar behaviour), you need to set

uptest=none;

in your server section.

It was the IPv6 problem. I forgot I had disabled it in modprobe.conf, and when I upgraded it turned into modprobe.conf.pacsave. Alas, every time I make a post here I find the answer ten seconds later.

What network setup you have?. IPv6 shouldn't cause problems in any scenario unless some piece is broken somewhere in your setup.

Can you be more specific? I use wicd to set up my network, and I haven't made any big changes elsewhere.
