[solved] refresh ethernet connection

When my computer has been suspended for some time, my internet connection doesn't work anymore on wakeup. I have to pull the ethernet cable and plug it in again, then everything works fine again.

I'm sure, somehow I could also refresh the ethernet connection software-wise, without having to pull and replug the cable physically. But why? The optimal solution woud be that that would be done everytime the computer wakes up from suspend mode.

More info would very useful. Are you using networkmanager? What is your ethernet card, laptop model? If you use windows/mac is it the case on there also? Do you have wireless simulataneously connected?

Re: [solved] refresh ethernet connection

Ah sorry for the lack of information. I'm running Arch (up-to-date) on a MacBook4 (full specs: click) (dualboot) using Gnome3. I only have this problem on Arch, but neither on OS X nor on any Linux distro I tried out before I found Arch (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Slack).

As described above, the problem is not the internet connection itself, i.e. as soon as I replug the ethernet cable everything works perfectly fine again. It's just that the computer "forgets" about the ethernet connection on suspend mode, i.e. doesn't refresh the connection on wake up.

If more configuration details are needed, you just need to tell me the output of which commands I have to post. I don't know those by myself yet.

Re: [solved] refresh ethernet connection

Well, I kinda solved the problem, or better: There actually never really was a problem...

I had lost a good part of the Gnome Shell icons (svg images couldn't be displayed anymore, as I found out), among others the Network Manager icon in the menubar. I was able to fix it, so the Network Manager icon is visible again. Now it's clear why I didn't have internet after resuming from suspend mode: The connection is refreshed by itself, which takes some seconds.

I only thought replugging the ethernet cable fixed the connection; actually I only had to wait some more seconds.

It's kinda annoying that it always takes some time till I have internet after waking up the computer, but I can live with it.
