Dell Mini 1012 cannot properly lease new IP Addresses over wireless

After a reformat and package upgrade of my Dell Mini 1012 netbook I cannot properly lease a new IP address from my 2WIRE router wirelessly. I've tried clearing dhcpcd's leases multiple times, tried manual connection, and used netcfg and wicd and nothing works. The strange thing is, on the updated system, wired connection works just fine from the same router, and both work flawlessly from the 2011.08.19 install image. I have to assume it's a software issue with either the kernel or dhcpcd. I'm hoping for a miracle once the kernel is updated to 3.2.5, but is there anything I can try in the meanwhile?

Also, I've tried my friend's smartphone from tethering and that works too with the wifi standard no less, so it could also be a problem with my router, but since it works with older software I don't want to buy a new one just yet.

Re: Dell Mini 1012 cannot properly lease new IP Addresses over wireless

There appear to be quite a few issues that other users had with dhcpcd and newer kernels since the install image. You might want to get the exact PCI ID of your wifi card and then search the forum here with that AND dhcpcd to look for possible workarounds.
Another thing to try is dhclient instead of dhcpcd.

Thanks Strike, I'll try that. I've also tried dhclient, but it just puts netcfg into an infinite loop.

Also, I think I'll just use the lts kernel for the meanwhile, hopefully 3.2.5 will resolve my woes.

It is unlikely that 3.2.5 will change anything, since it brings the (by many awaited) power management patch, but nothing else.
But if the LTS works for you, that's not a problem then.
