Network connection to multimedia player slow speed,

Good evening,

I use a Samba connection between my archlinux (up to date) computer and my multimedia player (viewsonic wmp 74) with an external hard drive plug to it via USB, the connection between the PC and the wmp 74 is via my O2 Box with a CPL connection also.

It take about 3 minutes to transfer 420mb @ around 2.4MB/sec

Is there a way to improve the transfer speed, I search the forum and the web, but most of the tips are for previous version of Samba,
