February 2012 snapshot doesn't install on PC (though on EeePC)

Strange, the above ISO-CD booted without a problem
on my EeePC 701, and procedded to where I can
start the installation.

On my desktop PCs it booted and then stopped
with the following message:

'Waiting 30 seconds for device /dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201202..'
and recommended I fix that manually (didn't say what).

There's no need for it on my EeePC 701, though I'd like it on my
desktop systems.

ISO-CD ? Ok, I'll bite... What is an "ISO-CD" ?

I'm guessing you're trying to install from an external optical drive? ... Someone else had the famous 30 seconds error just recently: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=135572

Read the part about labels and about SYSLINUX not supporting Joliet.
