Pacman failing to connect

Hey Guys!

I hope this is not a repost.  I have looked around the forums and inquired of Google but couldn’t fix it.  If this is explained somewhere else, just point me over there!

I just completed my first Arch install and went to update it with:

Pacman –Syu

I receive the error message:

Error: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from <name of server> : network is unreachable
Or:
Error: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from <name of server> : connection timed out

I un-commented all the US servers and let it run, but they all failed.  I am connecting through my school’s proxy.  I added the proxy to /etc/wgetrc.  Wget seems to work but I can't seem to get pacman working...

Thanks in advance!

Check this thread and try setting the proxy environment variables: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 95#p932895

If that doesn't work but wget does, you could uncomment the wget XferCommand in /etc/pacman.conf as a temporary solution.

As a sanity check --  (Sorry, this is your first post; I cannot make any assumptions)

What is the output of ip addr   ??
Can you ping archlinux.org?

That did it!  You mentioned this as a temporary solution...  What would be a more elegant/permanent fix?
