Unable to fit whole desktop screen on HDTV

Greetings,

I have an old MacMini (model 2,1) hooked up to a 55" HDTV with a DVI-to-HDMI cable and I've been trying my darndest to fit the whole desktop on the TV screen for days now without any success. sad I was wondering if anybody here could help me.

I get the following error when I try to do it manually:

arch@MacMini:[~]$ xrandr --output DVI1 --set underscan on
X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request: 149 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 11 (RRQueryOutputProperty)
Serial number of failed request: 29
Current serial number in output stream: 29

I'm not using an xorg.conf file and, for some reason, the kernel fails to recognize the maximum 1080p resolution, which is fine, since I prefer 720p anyway (easier to read web pages that way). What's really annoying, though, is that I can't see applications' menus when maximized or the taskbar at the bottom because those go out of screen range.

Specs:

Re: Unable to fit whole desktop screen on HDTV

Have you set your TV to the "pc setting". My TV had one and it fixed my problem.

Re: Unable to fit whole desktop screen on HDTV

I changed the HDMI screen settings from "AUTO" to "FULL" using the remote control and that did the trick. When I tried that earlier, it didn't work for me, but now it did right away. Very odd, but I'm not one to complain.
Thanks for the help!
