Trouble ahead: udisks and udisks2

A recent post on the SpaceFM topic throws up worrying developments concerning udisks, especially if you don't want to use Gnome. udisks2 is a very different and incompatible beast from udisks, and will not be intended for incorporation into scripting. Just when we thought it was safe to abandon hal ....

udisks and udisks2 can be installed in parallel. there is nothing to worry

At least co-existence is a small plus for a while. But of course, udisks development will progressively die and bugs are already not being fixed, I believe.
Some new sustainable solutions are really needed, especially for those of us who don't want to get snarled up by the big DEs (such as Gnome in this case).
