I recently put Arch Linux on my laptop, installed the cvs version of ndiswrapper and setup my Broadcom (ick) wireless (using the stock kernel 2.6 ide). Everything worked fine so I updated my packages with pacman and made a custom kernel (2.6.11). I then recompiled ndiswrapper after reboot and everything went fine as far as reconfiguration goes. When I loaded the module my wireless light came on briefly and then turned off, however dmesg and iwconfig showed everything to be operational without any errors noted. When I tried to set the essid with iwconfig the output showed it was ignored (keeyping it set to off/any). iwlist wlan0 scan shows no results.
I tried reverting back to the stock kernel and recompiling ndiswrapper but still got the same results. I assume this is a package I upgraded that may be causing this? I tried re-installing wireless_tools and nothing changed (the latest is what comes with Arch .07 anyway).
Any ideas? I'm stumped, thanks for any help.

**BUMP!**
Similar problem here -- except my rt2750 driver now panics the kernel. I believe it to be a package update somewhere within the window of 7/12 and 7/19 ...
ndiswrapper is also dysfunctional.
perhaps it may be wise to try a beta version (v18) of wireless-tools ?? I noticed ndiswrapper's drivers are built on top of this.
Any progress??

Should a bug report be filed?

Have you tried Phrakture's ndiswrapper packages? I've only heard positive things about them. The cvs version may be unstable.

Thanks for the responses, glad I'm not the only one. I will try checking into other versions of the wireless_tools and phaktures ndiswrapper package.
On another note I also noticed that version 18/17 error came up too but my understanding from Googling is that it doesn't usually effect anything (keyword usually).
I'll post what happens after some package changing, but please excuse my lack of timeliness, I work way too much. Tthanks again for the responses and good luck as well,

Yes.. ndiswrapper and the rt2750 driver from http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/ quit working. The later crashing the kernel.
I've tried on both the stock arch kernel, and a custom 2.6.12.3.
Again, the wireless drivers were working correctly *before* .. and after a pacman -Syu and restart, they stopped (leading me to believe some package altered something critical). I've also tested against 4K and 8K kernel stack sizes.

Did you try removing and readding your ndiswrapper inf driver?
Sometimes some backend things change and that need to be updated...

Sure did. I even *re-installed* Arch from scratch.

I have tried the AUR package of ndiswrapper as well before with the same results. Everything seems to be working but the light goes off shortly after and I have no control setting anything with iwconfig. I was able to find some other drivers to play with but none of them seem to work (only driver present, not hardware).
One of the driver sites that has a few 64bit drivers in case anyone is interested:
http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/drivers.php
I'll keep playing around, hopefully something will work :x

Nope. I'm thinking maybe I should get a madwifi compatible card at this point. Never had much trouble with them once I got the hang of it- however with ndiswrapper drivers is just seems to be a rollercoaster ride

Jskier..
Can you test with a kernel that has PREEMPT off? Also.. can you test with hotplug daemon being turned off? -- All w/ a "clean" kerenl as I describe in:
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/phpBB2/v … 2&start=15
